MLP: FiM - Without Magic Part 84

If you're a little confused as to what is going on, Luna is speaking to the Captain of the Night Guard about Princess Celestia's past apprentices, in an effort to better understand the present day relationship between Twilight and Celestia. The Captain tells her that something similar sometimes happens in the Guard. An experienced soldier takes on an apprentice, but sometimes the struggles when they try to live up to their masters reputation. Some of them succeed and go on to be great leaders. Some of them burn out and break down, and some of them become angry and frustrated, and go spectacularly bad in an Anakin Skywalker\Sunset Shimmer kinda way.

Luna then laments that the brighter Celestia's light becomes (the greater she becomes) the darker the shadow that she casts on other ponies becomes (AKA Luna\Nightmare Moon).
