This page continues where Page 38 left off (Pages 39 and 40 are Twilight dreaming right before Applejack wakes her up). Twilight is spending a few days on Sweet Apple Acres, to find out more about being an Earth Pony, and what makes her special outside of magic. So that she can get her horn and Cutie Mark Back.

Before anybody says anything, Applejack isn't being mean to Twilight, she's treating her exactly as she would treat a member of her own her own family. It's pretty normal for families in small towns to get up early and to eat breakfast together before doing farm chores.

It's also pretty normal to expect everybody to pitch in. Especially if they were family\treated as familiy

Applejack is doing pretty much what any country mom\big sister would do.

Sink or swim, y'all pitch in.

Biscuits and Gravy?

OK, this one might need a little explaining.

Biscuits and Gravy is a traditional breakfast in some states going back all the way to pioneer times.

It's a kind of bread\cake eaten with a white gravy. It's served hot and is a pretty good start to the day if you've got to do a lot of chores before you go to school.

It's not eaten as much as it used to be, and in a lot of places your more likely to hear about it in an old movie than to actually be served it, but it's still quite popular in some places.

Biscuits and Gravy can take some folks by surprise the first time that they have it. Particularly if they're from the suburbs\city and are more used to having toast and cereal and stuff for breakfast, and haven't heard of it.

In frame 8 and 9, Twilight and Applejack are both saying "Biscuits and Gravy", but are thinking completely different things.

Canterlot is supposed to be like Europe so Twilight thinks that the Apples are about to eat cookies and brown gravy, because biscuits are what Europeans call cookies.
