When I first started this comic, I had a small yet persistent core of people who constantly compared Twilight's experience (having her magic sealed) to various acts of violence. Some of the commenters went quite far, and it was somewhat disturbing to find people who were not able to distinguish between Twilight's experience and something that might happen in a war zone. Particularly as I made clear early on that Twilight's main issues are psychological rather than physical.

Seriously, some of the comments were more at home on a Cupcakes style comic.

I also found it disturbing that no matter how many times that I reiterated (Both in the comic and in the comments) that Twilight is suffering from depression brought on by an identity crisis rather than a physical injury (And that it was her fear of disappointing Celestia that was holding her back) this small core still persisted in thinking otherwise. It was like holding a conversation with a group of Harry Potter fans who didn't realize that they were talking to J K Rowling, and who kept insisting that Draco was just a misunderstood boy being bullied by Harry Potter.

Anyway, a year of so ago I decided to add this arc in (Drawing take a lot longer than scripting), to introduce a character who suffered from a physical injury, to allow Twilight to compare and\or contrast the character's situation to her own.

I deliberately decided to make the injury something where the effect would be more emotional than physical. So that it would be easier to show that the impact that it is having on their life was purely psychological.

Before anybody says anything, Silver Jubilee and her father are modeled after a family of South African diamond dealers\jewelers living in New York that I saw on an episode of Law and Order at around the time that I was drawing the page. Hence the casual racism.
