My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Cake MonsterThis is something of a landmark comic for me.
It's the first MLP strip that I've done where I haven't simply copied\pasted other people's ponies in, or used a Pony Generator.
Pretty much everything in this strip was created in either scratch drawn in Photoshop or Inkscape (My first Inkscape strip, yay) using images from the show, or other source material.
Frame 1Most of Frame 1 was scratch built in Photoshop or Inkscape.
I used sircinnamon's Celestia (
[link]) and McAwesomeBrony's Celestia (
[link]) as a base for my own model. As well as a couple of different shots from the show.
I imagine this is how Celestia would look as a teenager. She has pink hair as that's the color that is was show in the introduction to series one. I couldn't get the detail right on the crown or the necklace, so I put hearts in instead. I figure that she might have worn a different style when she was younger.
I've also drawn her wings differently. They are much more pert than in the series. Kinda like when you're a teenager and you buy your first pushup bra, and it makes you've got Kim Possible boobs.
Her Cutie Mark is from ooklah (
[link]), as I saw no reason to go over old ground again.
Frame 2Frame 2 is pretty much like frame 1.
Everything is either scratch built in Photoshop or Inkscape. Same base's Princess Celestia.
Frame 3Frame 3 is a based on Frame 2. I use transparencies and fill effects on her tail and mane in Inkscape to make it look like she's really angry then I exported it to Photoshop where I added the shadow, and tinted her colors to make it look like she's glowing with rage.
I deliberately made her feathers spiky rather than smooth as in the show to show how angry she is. She's literately bristling with rage. I'd have liked to have the refrigerator melting away or the floor tiles cracking, maybe I will update it to include these things sometime. Maybe not. I guess that's what differentiates hobbyist like me from real artists.
Princess Luna was drawn in Inkscape using images from the show as a base. I'm not particularly happy with the eyes or the mouth and may re-draw them some time. The eye was meant to look catlike, but it didn't come out so good, and the teeth are too small.
Frame 4I must admit here that the background from Frame 4 isn't my doing. It was drawn by theirishbronyx (
[link]). The Moon Canon and Princess Luna were both drawn in Inkscape.
